RenaissanceRe was established in Bermuda in 1993 to write property catastrophe reinsurance. We went public in July 1995 and are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ‘RNR’.

Our business is divided into 2 reportable segments:

1. Reinsurance, written by Renaissance Reinsurance as well as our managed joint Ventures which include, Da Vinci and Top Layer Re
2. Individual Risk, written by the Glencoe Group

DaVinci Reinsurance Ltd.

DaVinci Re provides property catastrophe reinsurance against natural and man-made disasters and specialty reinsurance for certain other risks, primarily in areas where it can take advantage of RenaissanceRe’s catastrophe reinsurance expertise.

DaVinci Re draws upon RenaissanceRe’s skills in underwriting, risk evaluation and the application of proprietary, advanced risk-modeling technology. DaVinci Re’s strategy is to:

Top Layer Reinsurance Ltd.

Top Layer Re was founded in 1999 to underwrite reinsurance and retrocessional reinsurance for very high layers of catastrophe programs on a world-wide basis (excluding the U.S., and Caribbean windstorm). These layers are generally higher than those written by Renaissance Reinsurance. Top Layer offers innovative, custom-designed products and programs backed by outstanding financial security and strong claims-paying ability.

Top Layer is a joint venture owned 50% by Renaissance Reinsurance and 50% by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company (“State Farm”), the largest property-casualty insurance company in the U.S. Top Layer’s business is exclusively managed and underwritten by RUM, a part of our Ventures group, pursuant to a long-term arrangement and benefits from Renaissance Reinsurance‘s proprietary risk-modeling technology and disciplined underwriting expertise.

Top Layer is rated AA (“Very Strong”) by Standard and Poor’s and A+ (“Superior”) by A.M. Best.

Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe

Based in Dublin, Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe is a fully capitalized reinsurance company formed in 1998. The company is regulated by the Irish Financial Regulator after Ireland became the first country to implement the EU Reinsurance Directive. Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe also serves as a modeling, software development and marketing base for the RenaissanceRe group of companies.

Renaissance Underwriting Managers Ltd.

Renaissance Underwriting Managers Ltd. (“RUM”), part of our Ventures group, acts as an underwriting manager for our joint ventures. In addition, RUM supports the RenaissanceRe organization by providing structured reinsurance solutions.

RUM also provides management services to strategic partners by acting as an underwriting agent, providing consulting services or acting as a principal representative. The company focuses on:

• providing high quality, responsive service;
• utilizing RenaissanceRe’s REMS© system to evaluate submissions, manage portfolios of reinsurance and manage capital; and
• underwriting risks, processing contracts, and providing accounting, financial and exposure management.
