RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited is the managing agent for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. It manages Syndicate 1458, employs the underwriting staff, and oversees the compliance, legal, human resources, actuarial and finance functions providing services to the syndicate. RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited is franchised by Lloyd’s of London, authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority, and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

Richard Murphy

Richard Murphy has been involved in the London Insurance Market for over 25 years. He was one of the founding shareholders of Spectrum Management Limited – subsequently bought by RenaissanceRe in 2009. As well as managing three active syndicates on a turnkey basis, Mr. Murphy has overseen the successful closing of six run-off syndicates, the execution of an insurance company solvent scheme of arrangement, and the piloting of the first part VII transfer at Lloyd’s.

During his earlier years at Lloyd’s, Mr. Murphy held a number of positions including as a General Manager with responsibility for the majority of regulatory operations, and as an Executive Assistant to Lloyd’s Director of Finance. Prior to working at Lloyd’s, Mr. Murphy spent four years with the Audit Commission and five years in the Home Civil Service.

Mr. Murphy holds a degree in Law and Politics from the University of Kent at Canterbury. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Hugh Brennan is the Chief Executive Officer of RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited. Prior to this, Mr. Brennan served as Financial Director with ultimate responsibility for the finance function and related processes as they pertain to the London operations of RenaissanceRe. Mr. Brennan joined RenaissanceRe in Bermuda in 2009, and moved to London later that year.

Previously, Mr. Brennan spent nine years with PricewaterhouseCoopers working in their Dublin, New York and Bermuda offices, respectively. During his time with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr. Brennan worked in an audit and latterly in an advisory capacity within the company’s financial services sector, primarily focused on the Insurance/Reinsurance market.

Mr. Brennan graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Economics, before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant through the Irish Institute in 2003. More recently, he was awarded the CFA charter.

RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458

Bryan Dalton is Senior Vice President and Active Underwriter for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He is based in London and is responsible for the underwriting strategy, processes and standards for the Lloyd’s business of Renaissance Reinsurance Ltd. 

Previously, Mr. Dalton managed the International Property Catastrophe portfolio for RenaissanceRe, including the underwriting of retrocessional and primary reinsurance deals, and was based in Bermuda. Mr. Dalton began his career with the Company in 2002 in Dublin as a catastrophe analyst, moving to the Bermuda office in 2005 as Assistant Vice President within the reinsurance team. He was promoted to Vice President on the International Cat team in 2009 and named Senior Vice President in 2012. 

Mr. Dalton holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and a Masters in Management Science from University College Dublin.
Robin J. Lang

Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, European Operations
RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited

Robin Lang is Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Ltd. He is based in London and is responsible for the risk profile of Syndicate 1458 and Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe.

Mr. Lang joined RenaissanceRe in 2001 in Dublin as a property treaty analyst and held various roles in the risk and portfolio management team in Bermuda before being seconded to the risk team in London in 2010 to assist with the Syndicate 1458’s Solvency II efforts. Mr. Lang has extensive understanding of the RenaissanceRe risk systems and tools as well as the RenaissanceRe risk and underwriting culture.

Mr. Lang has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Edinburgh University and a Masters in Engineering from McGill University in Montreal.

Kim Fox has worked in the Lloyd’s Market for over 25 years. Ms. Fox was appointed Chief Operating Officer of RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited in 2008 and was one of the founding members of RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited at its formation in April 2002.

Ms. Fox originally held the title of Compliance Director with RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited, having previously held the same position with Crowe Syndicate Management Limited. Prior to joining Crowe, Ms. Fox worked for the Corporation of Lloyd’s for 17 years in both the Members’ Services Unit and the Regulatory Division. On leaving the Corporation of Lloyd’s in August 1999, she held the position of Assistant Manager, Monitoring Department and was responsible for managing 25 staff carrying out market supervision on the various Lloyd’s agents and syndicates.

Divyesh Upadhyaya assumed the role of Finance Director for RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management Limited in February 2016 and is responsible for leading the finance function of the London operations of RenaissanceRe.

Previously, Mr. Upadhyaya was UK Head of Finance for XL Catlin Group. In this role he had primary responsibility for financial reporting, planning and analysis of Catlin UK legal entities including the largest syndicate operating at Lloyd’s. Prior to this, Mr. Upadhyaya spent 15 years with PWC in their Nairobi and London offices working extensively within Lloyd’s, the London market and global general insurance company portfolios.

Mr. Upadhyaya is a Member and a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
