Bryan Dalton is Senior Vice President and Active Underwriter for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He is based in London and is responsible for the underwriting strategy, processes and standards for the Lloyd’s business of Renaissance Reinsurance Ltd. 

Previously, Mr. Dalton managed the International Property Catastrophe portfolio for RenaissanceRe, including the underwriting of retrocessional and primary reinsurance deals, and was based in Bermuda. Mr. Dalton began his career with the Company in 2002 in Dublin as a catastrophe analyst, moving to the Bermuda office in 2005 as Assistant Vice President within the reinsurance team. He was promoted to Vice President on the International Cat team in 2009 and named Senior Vice President in 2012. 

Mr. Dalton holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and a Masters in Management Science from University College Dublin.

Jodie Arkell joined RenaissanceRe in February 2016. As a Senior Specialty Underwriter for Syndicate 1458, she is responsible for building a specialty book of business with a focus on marine, energy, aviation and composite specialty business.

Previously, Ms. Arkell worked for XL Catlin for 13 years, most recently as Head of Specialty in London, where she wrote a specialty book focusing on marine, energy, aviation and composite specialty business. In this capacity she also managed a team of employees and had senior responsibility for the overall account.

Ms. Arkell has a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Business Systems Modelling from Sheffield Hallam University. She achieved her ACII designation in 2007. 
Nicholas Conway

With 29 years of experience in the industry, Nicholas Conway joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in November 2013 and is responsible for underwriting the International Medical Malpractice insurance book for the syndicate. Before joining RenaissanceRe, Mr. Conway was Class Underwriter for the International Medical Malpractice underwriting team for Marketform Syndicate 2468, with business written both through coverholders and on an open market basis. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Marketform Limited with responsibility for all medical malpractice business including the UK portfolio.

In the course of his career after leaving Eastbourne College, Mr. Conway was a broker with Minet International Professional Indemnity and then Alexander Stenhouse. He then spent 12 years at the Marsh Group, firstly as a Vice President at Winchester Bowring and then Guy Carpenter and finally Marsh FINPRO where he was a Senior Vice President.

Thomas Cox is a Senior Casualty Insurance Underwriter with RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He is responsible for underwriting the worldwide professional indemnity insurance book. He joined the syndicate in 2011 as a Casualty Underwriter.

Before joining RenaissanceRe, Mr. Cox was at Brit Insurance as an Underwriter for the North American Professional Liability book, in particular Architects and Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants and Insurance Brokers. In that role, he spent time in the US advising the London office on long-term strategy for writing casualty lines from Brit Insurance’s newly opened onshore offices. He was also responsible for co-building and influencing the technical underwriting systems that are still in operation throughout that company today. Mr. Cox started his career in 2003 as a US Casualty Broker with Aon, where he was responsible for North American Casualty Treaty Reinsurance business.

Mr. Cox is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. He holds Chartered Insurer Status and obtained Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) in 2009.

Ed Cruttenden is responsible for underwriting the worldwide Professional Indemnity insurance book for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. Mr. Cruttenden joined RenaissanceRe in 2010 and has over 17 years of experience in both the Insurance and Reinsurance market. He started his career at DP Mann in 1993, progressing to underwriting on both the US Casualty Treaty account and the Professional Indemnity Insurance account. Mr. Cruttenden then spent 12 years at Hiscox as Deputy Underwriter for the Professional Indemnity account. From 2005, he assumed leadership of this team and directed strategy. Mr. Cruttenden holds a BSc in Geography from the University of Leeds.

Jaymin Desai serves as an underwriter for the Property Treaty book for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. Mr. Desai joined RenaissanceRe in 2010 as an analyst.

Prior to joining RenaissanceRe Mr. Desai completed the Lloyd’s of London graduate program where he was part of the exposure management and risk management teams. He also spent six months with Arrow Syndicate working with the underwriters on the Company’s property treaty book.

Mr. Desai graduated from Cass Business School with a Bachelor’s of Science (Honours) degree in Actuarial Science. He gained the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) in 2011. 
Xianglong Gan

Xianglong Gan is a Treaty Underwriter for casualty and specialty lines at RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in 2011 as a Pricing Analyst.

Previously, Mr. Gan worked at Aon Benfield where he was responsible for analyzing, structuring and optimizing client reinsurance programs with a focus on marine, energy and composite specialty business. Prior to that, Mr. Gan worked as Deputy Project Manager in a leading Chinese engineering contracting company.

Mr. Gan is a qualified UK actuary. He holds a Master’s degree (Distinction) in Actuarial Management from Cass Business School, and a PG Diploma (Distinction) in Actuarial Science from University of Southampton. Mr. Gan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Tsinghua University in China.

Julian Goldberg is a Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter with RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He joined the company in 2012 as a Casualty Treaty Underwriter to help maintain and develop the Casualty Treaty book.

Before joining RenaissanceRe, he worked at Brit Insurance writing a variety of International Casualty Treaty lines, including Medical Malpractice, Professional Indemnity, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Personal Accident, Motor and Financial Lines. In that role, he developed various financial and performance management tools which are still used widely across the syndicate.

Mr Goldberg holds an Honours Law Degree from the University of Kent and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurance (ACII). 
Naveed Haque

Naveed Haque joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in July 2016 as a Casualty Underwriter. 

Before joining RenaissanceRe, Mr. Haque was at Liberty Specialty Markets as a Senior Underwriter for the North American Treaty account. He was responsible for the Workers Compensation portfolio as well as writing a variety of other US Casualty Treaty classes, including Professional Indemnity, General Liability and Auto Liability. 

Mr. Haque started his career on the graduate scheme at Aspen Insurance in 2004, where he supported the Property and Casualty Reinsurance teams as an Actuarial Analyst. In 2010 he joined Atrium Underwriters as an Assistant Underwriter before joining Liberty Specialty Markets in 2013 as an Underwriter. 

Mr. Haque graduated from Kings College London with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mathematics and Management. In addition, he is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. 
Maureen Higgins

Maureen Higgins is an underwriter with RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 with authority for property proportional reinsurance.

She joined RenaissanceRe in Bermuda in 2008 as part of the Finance team, before moving to London with the company in 2011 for the Syndicate 1458 finance team. Ms. Higgins subsequently moved to the risk and underwriting team in London in 2014.

She began her career with Ernst & Young in Toronto as a staff accountant, and moved to Bermuda as an account executive with HSBC Insurance Solutions Inc. where she managed a book of captive insurance companies.

Ms. Higgins received a Master’s degree in Business and a Bachelor of History degree from Dalhousie University in Canada. She is also a qualified CPA.

Graham Ilott joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in February 2014 as Healthcare Insurance Underwriter with responsibility for the International Medical Malpractice insurance portfolio. 

Mr. Ilott has over 28 years of experience in the market, most recently specializing in the medical malpractice arena. Prior to joining RenaissanceRe, he was an underwriter with Marketform Syndicate 2468 handling their international medical portfolio for 10 years. Mr. Ilott started his career in 1986 at the Willis Group, working in the accounts, claims and policy departments before becoming a broker within the Reinsurance department.

Richard Marks serves as an underwriter for the Direct & Facultative Property book for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. Mr. Marks started with the Company in March 2011 and has over 20 years of experience within the London market. Before joining RenaissanceRe, Mr. Marks was running one of the North American broking teams at Marsh, mainly placing Fortune 500 accounts originating out of the U.S. Before joining Marsh, he was with Aon, where he was responsible for placing Caribbean business, and was a broker at Ropner’s and Brown Shipley placing U.K. business.

Brian McCarthy is an underwriter with RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 with authority for proportional reinsurance and delegated authority in both property and specialty lines.

Mr. McCarthy started his career with Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe in January 2006 providing catastrophe modelling support. In 2013 he transitioned to RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 where he managed the property deal analytics team, subsequently moving into a risk and portfolio management role responsible for representing both property assumed and ceded risks written for the Syndicate. Mr. McCarthy received a Masters degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree from University College Cork.

Sudhir Modhvadia serves as an underwriter for the Direct & Facultative Property book for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He joined the company in January 2014 from Travelers Syndicate 5000 where he was previously responsible for writing open market property business.

Mr. Modhvadia has worked within the Lloyds Marketplace for several years, having initially joined Travelers Syndicate working on the Syndicate Operations Team before moving across to underwriting.

Mr. Modhvadia has a Business and Statistics degree at Nottingham University and is fully ACII qualified.

Ian Oakley is responsible for Global Casualty Treaty business covering Professional Indemnity, Medical Malpractice, General Liability and Financial Lines. Ian joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in 2009 as Head of Claims and Contracts, moving to head the underwriting of the Casualty Treaty book in 2010. Before joining RenaissanceRe, Ian was with Aspen Re’s US Casualty team since 2002, managing the team and claims for the US Casualty book, as well as the development of hi-tech solutions for gathering and collaborating information. Mr. Oakley began his career in 1982 at Walsham Brothers, specialising in London market excess business. In 1984, he joined RA Edwards (Syndicate 219) and became Claims Manager working as part of the asbestos, pollution and health hazard claims coordinating groups. In 1993, Ian moved to DP Mann to manage the claims of the US Casualty Treaty and direct Professional Indemnity portfolios, focusing on Medical Malpractice, Lawyers Professional Indemnity and other Casualty lines. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

J.P. O’Leary underwrites the Property Catastrophe book for RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458. He was earlier at RenaissanceRe Europe, spending three years in catastrophe modelling. Mr. O’Leary has worked as a broker in Aon Benfield’s Non Marine Retro Team, responsible for UNL and ILW products, and as an underwriter at Hannover Re, responsible for structured underwriting. He holds a B.E. Mechanical Engineering from University College Dublin and a MSc in Management Science from University College Dublin, Graduate School of Business.

Stuart Sexton Joined RenaissanceRe in April 2013. He is a casualty insurance underwriter focusing on lawyers, architects and engineers’ professional indemnity insurance, while also working on outwards reinsurance purchases for the wider casualty insurance team.

Mr. Sexton has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History from the University of Durham, graduating in 2012, and is studying towards becoming an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Alex Shepherd is responsible for managing the Property book for RenaissanceRe’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 1458. Mr. Shepherd joined RenaissanceRe in 2009 and has over fifteen years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance in both the London and Bermuda markets. Mr. Shepherd started his career at Sedgwick before moving to Guy Carpenter in London and then relocating to Bermuda where he helped set up their Facultative office. He returned to London to accept an underwriting position at ACE Global Markets before moving to Canopius to assist in the establishment of their Direct & Facultative book.

Mr. Shepherd graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and a Masters in History. In addition, he holds the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Henry Yorke joined RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 in March 2013 and is responsible for underwriting the International Medical Malpractice insurance book for the syndicate. 

Before joining RenaissanceRe, Henry was part of three strong underwriting team writing International MedMal for Marketform Syndicate 2468, underwriting business on a worldwide basis focused on the core territories of Canada and Australia. Written both through coverholders and on an open market basis. 

Henry holds a BA Honours degree from Brunel University; he is currently studying for his Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurance (ACII).
